Raul Zurita-Milla

Professor of Spatio-Temporal analytics Head of the Geo-Information Processing Department

Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC). University of Twente. Enschede. The Netherlands

Raul Zurita-Milla received in 2003 the degree in agricultural engineering from the University of Córdoba, Spain. That same year he obtained an M.Sc. degree (with distinction) in Geo-Information Science from Wageningen University, the Netherlands. Between 2004 and 2008, he worked towards his Ph.D. degree at Wageningen University.
In 2008 he joined the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente, the Netherlands.
At ITC, Raul is currently Professor of Spatio-Temporal analytics and head of the Geo-Information Processing Department. His research interests include the design and use of geocomputational methods to solve complex problems.
Raul's work typically involves the use of machine learning and data mining methods, the integration of various raster, vector, and crowdsourced datasets, as well as the use of cloud-based approaches. From an application perspective, he is interested in studying seasonal processes: agriculture, phenology, and public health issues. Raul is a firm believer in open and team science. In this context, he founded the Open Science Community Twente, part of a network of international communities that promote the benefits of open scholarship
